Are You Trying To Remove A Repossession From Your Credit?

30 April 2009 No Comment

Recently the car manufacturers have been offering a great incentive. You may have seen the commercials where they offer to make your payments in the event that you lose your job. This is apparently an attempt to revive their own business and pump up the current economy but this is unprecedented. Nothing like this has ever been offered before and it is not likely to stick around too long especially when the economy recovers and we all hope that it does.

Before these surprising offers by the car manufacturers, if you lost your job you and you were not able to make your payments your car would be repossessed. This is an unfortunate occurrence that has happened to many people in the past. The repossession is bad enough but one of the worst things is that the negative mark on your credit can remain for as long as 7 years and preclude you from receiving another car loan, a home mortgage or even a credit card.

However difficult it may be contend with a negative repossession on your credit report, the fact is that you can have it removed. Repossessions are removed from credit reports all the time. Using credit bureau disputes and creditor negotiations you may be able to improve the status of the repossession or even have it deleted completely.

You can work with a professional credit repair company to negotiate the removal or amendment to the repossession or you can attempt to do it yourself. Either way you will probably need to contact the creditor to see if they may be willing to remove the account or report is as “paid in full” upon the payment of any money due. If the repossession is being wrongly listed on your report then you need to dispute it only with the credit bureaus. They will get verification from the creditor and if it is not accurate it will be removed from your report.

Do not hesitate to try to repair your credit as negative credit is removed from reports all of the time, even repossessions and bankruptcies. Few people make it through all of life without having any financial challenges and the sooner you can clean up your credit after a problem the sooner you can start anew. There is no need to suffer and punish yourself for any longer than you have to.

A fresh financial future is available to you as you get your credit repaired. You will now be able to get financing on cars, houses and more with ease. After you repair your credit though it is important to keep it good by being very careful when and where you use credit and if you are doubtful of your ability to make the payments waiting until you can pay cash.

Hopefully for all of us the economy will get better very soon and the car manufacturers will discontinue any offers to help with your payments. That offer is just a short-term fix and not something that is logical to stick around in the future. You can help yourself by repairing your past credit and keeping it good in the future by living within your means.

Repossessions and other negative marks can be removed from your credit reports but it does take some time and knowledge. These challenges happen to good people all the time. Just repair your credit and then try to avoid problems in the future.
